Social Studies Fair Topic Cards due Wednesday

Please be prepared to turn in 5-7 topics for your social studies fair project on Wednesday at the beginning of class. List the topics in order of preference. I require solo projects for social studies fair, so have your own card ready.

Recap of the first week of school

We started SY 2007-2008 by learning about basic geographical concepts such as longitude and latitude. We watched the video "Lost at Sea: The Search for Longitude." The video portrayed the work of John Harrison, the man who solved the problem of determining longitude at sea. We started learning the skill of making mind maps. We also worked on a crossword puzzle on map basics.

Bellringer Wrap-Up

The bellringers this week were:
Tuesday: List 10 events in world history that happened before A.D. 1500 and give the importance of each.
Wednesday: List 10 events in American history that happened between 1776 and 1877 and give the importance of each.
Thursday: List 10 events in Louisiana history and give the importance of each.
Friday: List 10 facts about Louisiana geography and give the importance of each.

Please complete these before the binder check on Thursday if you did not finish in class. You may use reference material, the Internet, or work with a friend.

Nothing Due on Monday

No assignments are due on Monday. You will not need your textbook on Monday. Social studies fair topic cards are due Wednesday. Binder Check is Thursday. Test 1.1 is on Friday.

Have a great weekend!

Mind Map on Longitude

I posted a mind map on longitude on my web page. You may use this as an example in class.

Longitude Mind Map

I enjoyed meeting you all today and look forward to a productive year together as we master the skills needed for the LEAP test and life as an informed citizen.

Hold off on the vocabulary cards on GLE #1 until we discuss them in class. Don't try to work ahead on the GLE worksheets.
